I predatori parassiti conosciuti come La Covata sono tornati nell’Universo Marvel in grande stile e il loro ultimo piano per infettare il cosmo li renderà un incubo non solo per gli X-Men, ma anche per Captain Marvel
Nella run attualmente in corso scritta da Kelly Thompson, Carol Danvers è salita alle stelle per rispondere a una chiamata di soccorso, per poi trovarsi faccia a faccia con l’orrore de La covata. Fortunatamente però non sarà sola, visto che questo arco narrativo vedrà coinvolti diversi personaggi tra cui Rogue, Gambit e Wolverine, La testata X-MEN di Gerry Duggan si collegherà con CAPTAIN MARVEL a partire da X-MEN #19 di febbraio (negli USA). Insieme all’artista Stefano Caselli, l’arco vedrà gli X-Men rendersi conto che, nonostante i loro sforzi, i Brood sono ancora una grave minaccia che deve essere abbattuta rapidamente e in modo permanente.
Intitolati “Revenge of the Brood” e “Lord of the Brood”, entrambi gli archi rappresentano una sorta di ritorno a quando Captain Marvel e gli X-Men hanno combattuto l’uno accanto all’altro nell’originale Brood Saga di Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum e Paul Smith. L’iconica avventura ha cambiato per sempre Captain Marvel trasformandola in Binary e ha visto gli X-Men compiere sacrifici . Quest’ultima guerra con la covata avrà lo stesso impatto emotivo e, ancora una volta, nessuna delle due parti ne uscirà indenne!

In “Lord of the Brood,” the X-Men get a distress call from deep space and find that the galaxy’s Brood problem is not as solved as they’d thought! When the X-Men’s close friend Broo became the Brood King, he gained the ability to control the savage alien race he was both a part of and so different from. Now he is experiencing his own nightmare scenario – the Brood are killing his friends, and there is nothing he can do to stop it! Rogue Brood factions have begun running wild, and it’s up to the X-Men to get to the bottom of why!
In “Revenge of the Brood,” Carol Danvers is on an X-press elevator to her own personal hell! And the Brood Empress is determined to ensure the Captain and all of her friends make it to their destination. Rescuing their team and getting out alive has always been the goal, but the odds are more deeply stacked against her team than Carol can even imagine. Overwhelmed and trapped in the Brood’s backyard, Captain Marvel and her team are forced to sacrifice one of their own. But the Brood let Carol through their clutches once before, and in so doing, created one of their worst enemies. They won’t make that mistake again.
Per celebrare l’occasione, i prossimi numeri di entrambe le serie avranno una gigantesca copertina di Juan Frigeri che uscirà su CAPTAIN MARVEL #46-48 e X-MEN #19-21. Questa nuova epopea Captain Marvel/X-Men si concluderà infine con CAPTAIN MARVEL #49, dove entrambe le storie convergeranno in un finale che cambierà la galassia!
“Volevo scrivere Brood e avere alcune guest star degli X-Men da quando abbiamo iniziato questa run di CAPTAIN MARVEL nel 2019!” Thompson ha detto a CBR in una recente intervista. “I Brood sono stati fuori dal tavolo per molto tempo a causa di alcuni cambiamenti nel loro ruolo nell’Universo Marvel – e questo era vero, un po’, anche per gli X-Men. Quindi è davvero eccitante che tutto questo finalmente si riunisca in un’unica storia – la nostra più grande storia di Captain Marvel mai vista – sembra giusto, sai? Sembra particolarmente giusto perché i The Brood sono veramente [alcune] delle più grandi nemesi di Carol. [Considerando] come abbiamo spinto sui suoi poteri, il suo ruolo nell’Universo Marvel e il suo impegno ad essere un’eroina, sembra che le cose stiano arrivando a una conclusione.
